Energieberg Georgswerder, Hamburg, 2009
Competition, 2. Prize
The valley station lies at the foot of the Energy Mountain. The entry-facing exhibition hall defines an open entrance gate in combination with the expressive folded roof, leading visitors onto the mountain along a fence. The peak station is situated at the top, on an event plateau, where its prominent roof covers a stage where visitors may participate in special occasions or simply enjoy the view. The underside of this large roof construction is illuminated in the evening and thereby provides a symbol for the Energy Mountain from far away.
The two stations will be realized as prefabricated timber buildings, which rest upon a concrete foundation. The wooden roof structures are selectively inset with steel and clad with elegantly shimmering aluminum. These economic and sustainable buildings will be harmonized with the existing buildings thanks to the tone of the exterior, and thus communicate a coherence with the context. The white color which characterizes the buildings contrasts with the colorful, pulsing landscape.
